A Day at the Zoo

Last Wednesday, we took Gwen to Lincoln Park Zoo out on a date with just the two of us. Jed and I have gone to the zoo together before, but it was a completely different perspective taking a little one along with us. She had so much excitement for the day, even beginning with the car ride.

During the car ride, she was talking a LOT about seeing the lions/tigers sleeping on rocks, and what do you know, there they were chilling on a rock upon our arrival.

We got to the zoo around 10am, and by 10:30, Gwen had found a bench for us to sit at to eat lunch right by the flamingos.  She really liked bites of Jed's yogurt and strawberries, and she offered up some chips graciously for us to munch on.
There was a singing lady who had musical instruments for kids to shake while she sang songs like, "You are My Sunshine" and "This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land." Gwen was mesmerized by her, and asked to go over.  She got a yellow 'turtle' for participating
Then, Gwen caught the eye of the carousel which was echoing music and had fancy lights.  Jed and I gladly took her over to it for a ride.  She liked to point out other animals as we were going around.
Gwen also talked a lot about seeing fish.  Talk about an interesting school!
And, of course, we also saw the polar bears, who were very playful and would come right up to the window either giving high-fives or blowing a huge pocket of air into the glass.

What a day at the zoo!  Thanks for a fun day!

How fun to see the zoo and its inhabitants through the eyes of a child! That looked liked so much fun.

when gwen was talking about the fish, she also mentioned that her dad couldn't catch a Muskee to save his life, and how Jed was a good fisherman.

we cannot wait to see how William would react to see all those beautiful animals! I guess we have to wait few more (long) months to get there... maybe next summer?
It seems you guys had lots of fun that day ;)
